Product Description
Late in the seventeenth century, Robert Kirk, an Episcopalian minister in the Scottish Highlands, set out to collect his parishioners’ many striking stories about elves, fairies, fauns, doppelgangers, wraiths, and other beings of, in Kirk’s words, “a middle nature betwixt man and angel.” For Kirk these stories constituted strong evidence for the reality of a supernatural world, existing parallel to ours, which, he passionately believed demanded exploration as much as the New World across the seas. Kirk defended these views in The Secret Commonwealth, an essay that was left in manuscript when he died in 1692. It is a rare and fascinating work, an extraordinary amalgam of science, religion, and folklore, suffused with the spirit of active curiosity and bemused wonder that fills Robert Burton’s Anatomy of Melancholy and the works of Sir Thomas Browne. The Secret Commonwealth is not only a remarkable document in the history of ideas but a study
of enchantment that enchants in its own right.

First published in 1815 by Sir Walter Scott, then re-edited in 1893 by Andrew Lang, with a dedication to Robert Louis Stevenson, The Secret Commonwealth has long been difficult to obtain—available, if at all, only in scholarly editions. This new edition modernizes the spelling and punctuation of Kirk’s little book and features a wide-ranging and illuminating introduction by the critic and historian Marina Warner, who brings out the originality of Kirk’s contribution and reflects on the ongoing life of fairies in the modern mind.

Product Description
The debut studio album from Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Unclassified resurrects the spiritual fervor of gospel, gutbucket soul of the blues, earthy power of R&B and raucous energy of rock. Led by pedal steel guitarist Randolph, who has been compared to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Duane Allman and Jimi Hendrix, RRFB was named Best New Artist at the recent W.C. Handy Blues Awards and New Groove of the Year at the Jammy Awards. With Unclassified, the secret is out.
Is this a big-tent revival? A funky throwdown? A jam-band juggernaut? Unclassified is all that, and so much more. The story of Robert Randolph is Hollywood-issue: kid from the gritty Jersey streets is saved from the bad life by playing steel guitar in a House of God Church. Of course, it wouldn't mean a thing if the guy couldn't play, but he can really tear it up. By updating the sacred-steel tradition with heavy doses of blues, funk, and rock, he's not only emerged with his own sound, but he's brought the music full circle, returning those pop-music styles to their gospel roots. The disc reaches some terrific heights from the very start with a fiery trio of opening songs: "Going in the Right Direction," "I Need More Love," and "Nobody" are joyous, uplifting romps brimming with the fervor of gospel music. Four instrumentals show the breadth of the sound, from the country-tinged "Squeeze" to the modal and slightly spaced-out "Calypso" to the scorching gospel-infused closer "Run for Your Life." A couple of the slower tunes impede the album's momentum, but at its best Unclassified comes awfully close to capturing the intensity of the Family Band's live shows--which is no small feat indeed. --Marc Greilsamer

Robert A Warner - Daily Herald

Robert A Warner. Robert A Warner (Bob) passed away on Saturday May 16, 2015 early in the morning. Robert was born March 29, 1940 in Spanish Fork, UT. He attended Spanish Fork High School, graduating in 1958. He then served an LDS mission in New Zealand. Robert continued to teach school until he retired from that position in 1990. During his summers he was a landscaper until he found his true calling in commercial fishing which he was involved in for 20 years. He loved being in Alaska and fishing on the sea and he passed that love on to his children. He retired from this as well in 2004 but never lost his love of the sea and boats, and after passing the business on to his children, he remained very interested and involved in the business up to and including his last day on earth. Robert had a very adventurous streak but loved people even more. He was known for being a prankster and he loved to tease people and make them laugh and smile. He had a great sense of humor as well as a sense of how to talk to all kinds of people. He touched so many lives just by being genuinely interested in their lives and feelings. He was known for his hugs and his huge smile that lit up any room he was in. He met people from all walks of life through his buying and selling of antiques after retirement. Robert enjoyed his teaching days and greatly loved to read. He loved to be outdoors, especially on the water fishing. He found a love of woodworking and restoring antiques and spent hours a day in his garage tinkering. He also loved to ride his bicycle and could be seen riding for miles around Vancouver Washington, Spanish Fork, and Springville. All through his illness, he kept wanting to ride his bike and go visit his family while riding. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Leona Warner of Spanish Fork, Utah. Robert is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 50 years, Jane Holt Warner. Source:
