“The Heir Apparent”

“The Heir Apparent”. Chicago Shakespeare Theatre on Navy Pier. Chicago , Illinois. Reviewed by Richard Allen Eisenhardt. “The Heir Apparent” is the holiday show at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and is a farce that is being directed by John Rando. The play has been written by David Ives. Paxton Whitehead is no stranger to the role of Geronte, a man who is old, rich and dying and who wants his nephew’s girl. Nate Burger plays his nephew Eraste who has good looks, a beautiful fiancée, Isabelle, played by Emily Peterson, and the prospects of a sizable inheritance from his uncle. The problem is that his uncle is not going to die in this French farce and he has left his fortune to someone else. The greedy mother, Madame Argante, is being played by Linda Kimbrough. Both Geronte and Eraste have servants – a saucy, clever servant Lisette played by Jessie Fisher and Crispin, played by Cliff Saunders. There is an intermission as the past, present and future get all screwed up. “The Heir Apparent” runs through January 17.
