Mr. President: Interfaith Perspectives on the Historic Presidency of Barack H. Obama: Eighty-four of the most influential faith leaders in the world provide powerful reflections on how the nations first African American President has forever changed the political landscape in America. The collection of essays chronicle the private life, tears, and fears of the Commander in Chief during some of the most challenging times during his administration. The contributors are diverse in faith, race, and political ideologies, yet the one thing they could all agree on is that President Barack Obama made a sustainable imprint on the nation.

Mr. President captures the experiences, thoughts, and emotions of people who have known President Barack Obama--some from afar, many from up close. Contributors focus on the president's expression of his Christian faith, his roles as a husband and father, his legislative priorities, his personal demeanor, and his leadership style. They also address some of the social and political dynamics that emerged during his time in office. The book contains some criticism based on things the president either did or failed to do. Mr. President features faith leaders from various ethnic and religious backgrounds and seeks to preserve for posterity this historic time. Just to name a few: Dr. Otis Moss II; Dr. David Beckman; Dr. Barbara Williams-Skinner, Dr. Obery Hendericks; Dr. Jim Winkler; Dr. Kenneth L. Clarke; Bishop Vashti McKenzie; Rabbi Julie Schonfeld; Dr. Marvin McMickle; Dr. Cynthia Hale; His Eminence Cardinal Donald Wuerl; Bishop George Battle; Dr. Charles E. Booth; Minister Gabby Cudjoe Wilkes; Bishop Donald Hilliard; Dr. Delmon Coates; Dr. Harold Carter, Jr.; Dr. Jamal Bryant; Wesley Granberg-Michaelson; Dr. Kenneth Taylor; Dr. Gerald Durley; Richard Burnett; Dr. Henry Davis; Dr. Angelique Walker-Smith; Matthew Watley; Michael Wear; Dr. Charles Edward Mock; Dr. Amos Brown; Sister Jeanna; Dr. Jo Anne Lyon; Dr. Martha Simmons, and many more...

In the Foreword, Jim Wallis, the founder of Sojourners magazine, captures the essence of that meaning in one simple quote, “The election of Barack Obama to the Presidency of the United States was a fundamental blow to white supremacy—a black man in the highest office of the land and the most powerful position in the world. That was and will always be the greatest legacy of the Obama presidency—a historic moment in the longstanding and ongoing movement to undo white supremacy and privilege. This historic moment challenged and threatened all the ways original sin still lingers.”

In the second foreword of the book, James Forbes, Jr. suggests that the presidency of Barack Obama was a “prophetic revelation of who we really are and what we must do if we are to become a truly democratic republic”. Forbes says, “We were being given the opportunity to discover how deep white supremacy is and how much work has to be done to move us into the full reality of being the land of the free and home of the brave.”

Mr. President, compiled by Reverend Darryl D. Sims, a doctoral candidate with Union Institute & University, a publisher, and nationally known spiritual coach who along with Dr. Barbara Williams-Skinner, President of Skinner Leadership Institute, compiled the collection of perspectives in honor of the Obama years. The book presents views of the Presidency from different religious perspectives and ideas on what needs to be done to preserve the President's legacy. Williams-Skinner, said: “There is no doubt that becoming the first black President of the United States of America has been Barack Obama's greatest legacy. His remarkable years in office have successfully delivered a significant blow to the negative stereotypes of the African American male.”
