In my family we have a set of words we use to describe media like Just Cause 2. We call them big, dumb, fun. Things like Kick Ass and Robin Hood: Men in Tights are big, dumb, fun. They exist to be big dumb and fun. Just Cause 2 exist as this type of media for me. It’s big, it’s dumb as fuck, and it’s fun as hell. The literal point of the Just Cause games is to cause chaos, there’s a meter measuring it and everything. The more stuff you blow up the more chaos you cause and the more the people whose stuff you just blew up like you, apparently. You play as Rico Rodriguez, a secret agent type specializing in destabilizing oppressive governments and helping the people rise up and what not. Out side of gameplay this doesn’t make a lot of sense but in game it doesn’t matter because you just grapple hooked a jet to the runway as it was taking off but now another plane is trying to land and also the army just showed up because some... To escape this you grapple to a nearby helicopter that’s taking off and hang underneath it while firing a rocket launcher at the army to cover your escape. Source: Game a Day
