Guiding schools through significant change is one of the toughest challenges educational leaders face, but learning from the examples of those who have succeeded can make it less daunting. In Leading Change in Your School, distinguished author and researcher Douglas B. Reeves offers lessons learned through his work with educators in thousands of schools around the world and presents real-life examples of leaders who have met the challenge of change head-on--with impressive results for their schools and districts. Readers will also find practical resources for engaging their colleagues in change initiatives.
Expanding on a number of his columns in the journal Educational Leadership, Reeves offers insights ad recommendations in four areas:
* Creating conditions for change, including assessments to determine personal and organizational readiness for change;
* Planning change, including cautionary notes about strategic planning;
* Implementing change, including the importance of moving from rhetoric to day-to-day reality; and
* Sustaining change, including the need to reorient priorities and values so that individual convenience gives way to a shared sense of the greater good.
The change leaders--both teachers and administrators--whose stories Reeves tells come from varied districts, but they share a passion for creating schools that work for all students. They are, Reeves says, "people like you, sharing similar challenges but perhaps with different results."
Burning pyres, nuns on the run, stirring courage, and comic relief: the Protestant Reformation is a gripping tale, packed with drama. But what motivated the Reformers? And what were they really like?
The Unquenchable Flame, a lively, accessible, and fully informative introduction to the Reformation by Michael Reeves, brings to life the movement’s most colorful characters (Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, John Calvin, The Puritans, etc.), examines their ideas, and shows the profound and personal relevance of Reformation thinking for today.
Also included are a lengthy Reformation timeline, a map of key places in the Reformation, further reading suggestions, and, in this U.S. edition, a new foreword by 9 Marks Ministries president Mark Dever.

Anyway, although we’re still not even close to true 50/50 gender parity in the world of film directing, it’s been encouraging to see the number of female directors screening their work at Fantastic Fest this year. Most high-profile of these is The Bad Batch (C), Ana Lily Amirpour’s follow-up to her feature debut A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night. Backed by Vice and Megan Ellison, The Bad Batch sees Amirpour given a big box of crayons with which to scrawl all over the proverbial walls, resulting in a film that’s long on style, and short on substance. The cast, which includes Jason Momoa as a sensitive cannibal, a nearly unrecognizable Jim Carrey as a sunburnt drifter, and Keanu Reeves as a Jim Jones-style cult leader in a Mad Max -esque desert dystopia, is similarly eccentrically utilized, for... More modest, but equally visionary, is Buster’s Mal Heart (B) , Sarah Adina Smith’s cerebral follow-up to her debut The Midnight Swim. Rami Malek—who, in an amazing bit of timing, signed on to the film just before the debut of Mr. Robot — stars in a dual role as Jonah, a modest family man who works overnights at a hotel and dreams of buying a plot of land in the mountains, and as... ” Exploring loss of faith in authority both earthly and divine, the film deals with some similar themes to those of Mr. Robot , but in an even more enigmatic manner.
