From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Eat to Live and The End of Diabetes, an unflinching, provocative exploration of how our food is killing us and the ways in which we are unwitting participants in an unprecedented and exploding health crisis.
Fast food is far more than just the burgers, fries, and burritos served at chain restaurants; it is also the toxic, human-engineered products found in every grocery store across America. These include: cold breakfast cereals; commercial and preserved (deli) meats and cheeses; sandwich breads and buns; chips, pretzels, and crackers; fried foods; energy bars; and soft drinks. Fast foods have become the primary source of calories in the United States and consequently the most far-reaching and destructive influence on our population. The indisputable truth is that our highly processed diet is the source of a national health crisis that is exploding into a genocide with unseen tragic implications.
Heart attacks, strokes, cancer, obesity, ADHD, autism, allergies, and autoimmune diseases all have the same root cause – our addiction to toxic ingredients. New York Times bestselling author, board-certified physician, nutritional researcher, and leading voice in the health field Joel Fuhrman, M.D., explains why the problem of poor nutrition is deeper, more serious, and more pervasive than anyone imagined.
Fast Food Genocidedraws on twenty-five years of clinical experience and research to confront our fundamental beliefs about the impact of what we eat. This book identifies issues at the heart of our country’s most urgent problems. Fast food kills, but it also perpetuates bigotry and derails the American dream of equal opportunity and happiness for all. It leaves behind a wake of destruction creating millions of medically dependent and sickly people burdened with poor-quality lives.
The solution hiding in plain sight — a nutrientdense healthful diet — can save lives and enable humans to reach their intellectual potential and achieve successful and fulfilling lives. Dr. Fuhrman offers a life-changing, scientifically sound approach that can alter American history and perhaps save your life in the process.
'Here is the fact of the age: we live in a time of disbelief. People believe nothing. They believe everything is spin and lies. When people believe nothing, they believe everything. With these words, I closed my book, Trust Me, PR is Dead – having argued that for too long the so-called "art" of Public Relations had propped up and legitimised bad leadership in business and politics. It was time to call bullshit on the bullshit. The crisis of trust – over which so many leaders shed crocodile tears – remains absolutely a crisis of leadership, even more so now. We have emerged with half the country not trusting the other half, while internecine battles flare elsewhere. Five years on, Noonan’s words reverberate – this time of disbelief leveraged without mercy by reckless politicians and then crowbarred into blatant lies for selfish gain. This is not just a time of disbelief. It is the post-truth age and is fraught with danger. Trumpeting populism and pretending to revile the very establishment to which they themselves belong, mercenary actors have prayed on the fearful and played Russian Roulette with the consequences of their manipulative words. They have seamlessly moved from 'managing the message' (an age-old PR trope) to manufacturing the message altogether – with echoes (but apparently no appreciation) of 1930s propaganda and populism that wreaked death and havoc on a continent for... Britain today has ugly copycats seeking highest office, at the same time rowing back from their own 'non-truths' shared so forcefully only days before: on the Health Service, immigration and even the mechanics of EU exit itself. And within this we have a contradiction: the master manipulation of the many – led into a non-existent promised land – by the few is contrasted by a seething, surging resentment and discontent from the very people they seek to control. In time, it will get the manipulators, too, but they will not see it coming. We are witnessing the violent death throes of the PR age. Sparked nearly a century ago by Edward Bernays, this man believed that 'propaganda' (his word, not mine) was the best way to suppress the democratic will of the people, whose judgment he did not trust. But the people are no longer willing to be bullied by self-appointed masters – and thus we are seeing the people’s revenge on a century of spin. Source: www.managementtoday.co.uk
