Pogue: La Vergne's Myers hopes for his shot at NFL - The Daily News Journal

It hasn’t been that long since Robert Myers was a jayvee football player as a junior at La Vergne High School. But after growing – literally and figuratively – into a talented offensive lineman at TSU good enough to be named All-Ohio Valley Conference second team the past two years, Myers found himself playing in the prestigious Senior Bowl on national... As an invitee, Myers spent the week leading up to the game displaying his NFL draft worthiness to coaches and scouts from all 32 teams. That included being coached on the North team by the complete Titans’ staff, including head coach Ken Whisenhunt. “I have had a great time here,” the 6-foot-5, 327-pounder said Saturday morning just hours before the game’s kickoff on the NFL network. The coaching staff has been pretty nice, and I have learned a lot, especially with (Titans offensive line coach) Bob Bostad and (Titans assistant offensive line coach) Mike Sullivan and other line coaches. “They teach technique-wise well, and they’re very hands-on and visual and verbal, so it has been pretty good being coached by those guys. Count TSU head coach Rod Reed, who signed Myers out of high school and later game him his nickname “Snacks” as one who believes the La Vergne High graduate can play in the NFL, whether selected in the NFL Draft come April 30-May 2 in Chicago or as... “Robert is very physically gifted,” said Reed, who had two Tigers offensive linemen attend the Senior Bowl last year and later get drafted, including Kadeem Edwards (Tampa Bay, fifth round) and Demetrius Rainey (St. Louis, seventh round). “He’s a kid that can dominate a game in our conference at any time when he chose,” Reed continued. And of that nickname Snacks, well, it came honestly during his freshmen year at TSU. Reed would catch Myers being among the last to go through the summer camp dining hall and filling his plate, but it was just before a practice that the nickname took off and stuck. “I started putting groceries and snacks in the trunk of my car to keep them away from my roommate,” Myers said. “Coach Reed came out and said, “Now, that’s why we call you ‘Snacks,’ and it was a big joke from that point on. ”. But Myers didn’t snack too. Source: www.dnj.com
