Just Like Jack
Product Description
Rock music took a new path in the Sixties, right into previously unknown territory of sound exploration. And sometimes, that exploration just went right back to the roots of the well-established sounds of folk, blues, jazz, and country. Moby Grape took all these things and brought them together into a psychedelic core. With all five members contributing songs and vocals, it was a democratic arrangement resulting in some of the era's finest albums. Among those five was songwriter Peter Lewis, whose presence in the world of recorded music has been entirely too rare since that magical time. Until now. SteadyBoy Records is proud to release the first solo recording from Lewis in over two decades. Just Like Jack is a poetic ramble down the road, Kerouac-style, with the musical spirit of the great Moby Grape, still defying easy category placement other than that of stellar songs sung from the heart.

The Lewis Man: The Lewis Trilogy by May Peter
Product Description
Marilyn Stasio in The New York Times raved: "Peter May is a writer I'd follow to the ends of the earth." Among the many honors received, The Blackhouse, the first novel in May's acclaimed Lewis trilogy, won the Barry and Crime Thriller Hound awards.

In The Lewis Man, the second book of the trilogy, Fin Macleod has returned to the Isle of Lewis, the storm-tossed, wind-scoured outer Hebridean island where he was born and raised. Having left behind his adult life in Edinburgh--including his wife and his career in the police force--the former Detective Inspector is intent on repairing past relationships and restoring his parents' derelict cottage. His plans are interrupted when an unidentified corpse is recovered from a Lewis peat bog. The only clue to its identity is a DNA match to a local farmer, the now-senile Tormod Macdonald--the father of Fin's childhood sweetheart, Marsaili--a man who has claimed throughout his life to be an only child, practically an orphan. Reluctantly drawn into the investigation, Fin uncovers deep family secrets even as he draws closer to the killer who wishes to keep them hidden.

Already an international bestseller and winner of numerous awards, including France's Prix des Lecteurs du Telegramme, The Lewis Man has the lyrical verve of Ian Rankin and the gutsy risk-taking of Benjamin Black. As fascinating and forbidding as the Hebridean landscape, the book (according to The Times) "throbs with past and present passions, jealousies, suspicions and regrets; the emotional secrets of the bleak island are even deeper than its peat bog."

Fundraising 'reset button' won't satisfy charities and donors, writes IoF ... - Third Sector

Peter Lewis, chief executive of the Institute of Fundraising , has raised concerns about the proposed Fundraising Preference Service and warned that a single "reset button" is unlikely to satisfy charities and donors. In a blog published on the IoF’s website, Lewis sets out five challenges for the new system of fundraising self-regulation as put forward in a report by Sir Stuart Etherington, published in September. Lewis says the new regulator must be independent and not afraid to hold fundraisers to account, but should also contain formal representation from fundraising experts. He says the fundraising community needs reassurance that some of the specific proposals, including the Fundraising Preference Service, which will enable people to opt out of all charity mail and telephone fundraising, will work effectively for... "Our members understand how important it is to fundraise in a way that is open, honest and respectful of donor preferences, but a single ‘reset’ button for all fundraising communications would not meet this test," writes Lewis. A survey of more than 500 fundraisers by the think tank Rogare , part of the Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy at Plymouth University, found that 77 per cent of respondents were against the introduction of a Fundraising Preference Service. In his blog, Lewis says there has been much debate among fundraisers on issues such as how much the levy on fundraising charities to pay for the new regulator will be and how the proposed new fundraising practice committee and complaints committee... Lewis’s comments come before the fundraising summit on Friday, at which Etherington, Rob Wilson, the Minister for Civil Society, and Lord Grade, interim chair of the new Fundraising Regulator, will discuss the recommendations in Etherington’s...
