The UnPopular Opinion: The Haunting - JoBlo.com

I was one of the ones who saw it in the theater and loved it. Yes, a little slow and not as super scary as I was expecting, but at the time Liam (who was a badass back then too just coming off Qui Gon Jinn, one of the only highlights of SWTPM,... and Lily Taylor was a pretty hot (in terms of in demand) supporting actress having done The Ransom a couple years earlier. All in all it was solid from cast to music to hell, Jan DeBont was still considered a solid director at the time. Personally, I feel that this movie is terrible. Even without comparing to the original, against which even a good remake would fail, there's the simple fact that the movie isn't a tiny bit scary, or even atmospheric. Lili Taylor's final speech to the big bad scary ghost man is hilarious in all the wrong ways. And then, if one does consider the original, then the remake becomes even worse. And I am not able to ignore the awful script, much as this article asks me too. Lili Taylor's final speech to the big bad scary ghost man is hilarious in all the wrong ways. And then, if one does consider the original, then the remake becomes even worse. It's one of those movies around 2000 where "Hey, we can do ANYTHING with CGI". The ghosts are mainly rattling around in her head, messing with her mind. Le Bont uses that moment to kick the movie into high Special Effects gear. Anyway, I had fun with the movie. On October 9th through 18th, the Albert Lea Community Theatre will get an early start on Halloween with a production of The Haunting of Hill House, a stage adaptation of the 1959 novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson. I'm not much of a theater buff.
