Errol Flynn movies on DVD - The Star-Ledger

It's the final "swashbuckler" starring Errol Flynn, the charismatic Australian actor (and off-screen rapscallion) who embodied the genre. Flynn was only 46 when he made "The Warriors," but his hard-partying, womanizing lifestyle aged him beyond his years. (The actor died four years later. Still, in "The Warriors" — in which he plays an English prince who infiltrates a French stronghold to liberate a fair damsel (Joanne Dru) — Flynn has the old charm. it often looked puffy and haggard in his films from this late period. Flynn is game but stiff. Flynn is noticeably slow, and the scene is ploddingly choreographed. A trick of the movie has Flynn often fighting while wearing a knight's helmet. So we'll see Flynn's character — obviously in the person of a capable stuntman — doing the rough stuff, after which Flynn lifts his mask, as if to say, "It's still me. ". The source of the confusion is Flynn, Young's devil-may-care brother who is also a musician, and who has kind of adopted Lupino and her bambino. The four of them (yes, even the baby) set out to track Eleanor down and clear up the sticky situation. Of course, Flynn and Parker fall for each other. (In fairness to Flynn, he doesn't realize Parker is his brother's former fiancée when first they meet. ) This makes Lupino jealous, even though she never had a commitment from Flynn. Flynn eventually composes and stages an opera, titled "Escape Me Never," which he dedicates to the woman he finally realizes he loved all along. (I'm not saying who. Yeah, it's soapy stuff, and an allegiance to Flynn doesn't quite carry his fans through the film. William Dieterle's "Another Dawn" (1937) was only Errol Flynn's fourth film after his astonishing breakthrough in 1935's "Captain Blood. " In this romance largely set at a British desert outpost, Flynn is. Source: www.nj.com
