When she retired from the Navy in 1986, at the age of 80, she was the oldest officer on active duty. Captain Winifred Love, of the US Navy, was born in 1914. In 1967, Captain Love was among the first group of Navy women officers selected to be the permanent rank of Captain. In 1973, she retired after 30 years of distinguished service to her country. During Operation Desert Storm, Major Marie Therese Rossie was the first woman pilot that lost her life while flying in a combat zone. She died at age 32. She is buried in Arlington Cemetery, where her simple epitaph there reads “First Female Combat Commander To Fly into Battle. Lillian Harris, born in 1913, was a member of the original WAC (Women’s Army Corp) and graduated in its first class. Senior Airman Jennifer Donaldson, from the Illinois Air National Guard 183 Fighter Wing, and only 19 years old, became the first woman to be trained at the only U. S. military sniper school open to females. She graduated in 2001, from the Sniper School’s first counter-sniper course for Air Guard security force personnel. The 14 straight days of strenuous physical & mental training is grounded in the idea that the best way to detect a sniper is with another sniper. S. military history to become a four-star General in the Army. Dunwoody served her country and the Army for 37 years. She also managed a budget of $60 billion and was responsible for the oversight of approximately $70 billion in service contracts. She came from a long family history of U. S. military service, going back 5 generations. And the history continues—her older sister, Susan Schoeck, was the third woman in the Army to become a helicopter pilot. Her niece, Jennifer Schoeck, is a U. S. Air Force fighter pilot. Greatly admired & respected, General Dunwoody retired in 2012. And today, Marine Capt. Katie Higgins is the first & only female Blue Angels pilot, flying now for over a year. She is a third-generation military aviator, where her father was an F-18 Hornet pilot. Source: Jen's Ride
