ALAINA REED (1946-2009) was Mary's best friend Rose Holloway. HAL WILLIAMS was Mary's husband Lester. JACKEE HARRY played neighbor Sandra Clark. The Greenfield-Central softball team’s lineup was potent Thursday night, outscoring the host Warren Central Warriors 15-3 to sweep its road doubleheader. The Class 4A No. 18 Cougars blanked the Warriors 7-0 in the first game behind a complete game shutout from Makayla Durick. The right-hander allowed just three hits and struck out seven. Sydney Williams led the hitting attack by finishing 3-for-3. Michaela Ballman and Codey Miller added two hits apiece. Greenfield-Central won the second game 8-3. Emily Francis had a two-out two-run hit to give the Cougars the lead in the seventh inning. Ballman threw a complete game, allowing no earned runs. Vernon tennis team improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference with a 5-0 sweep of Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Shelbyville on Thursday night. Vernon’s No. 1 singles player Cassie York won 6-0, 6-1. Alaina Nelson won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. 1 doubles team of Emily Annakin and Brianna Partin prevailed 6-1, 6-2.
