Immature-Wood Cemetery (Images of America: New York) by Brand: Arcadia Publishing
Product Description
For generations, Green-Wood Cemetery has played an integral part in New York City’s cultural history, serving as a gathering place and a cultural repository. Situated in the historic borough of Brooklyn, the thousands of graves and mausoleums within the cemetery’s 478 acres are tangible links and reminders to key events and people who made New York City and America what it is today. The monuments read like a who’s who of American greatness and include the names of Leonard Bernstein, F. A. O. Schwarz, Charles L. Tiffany, Samuel Morse, and DeWitt Clinton, among others. A national historic landmark since 2006, Green-Wood is considered one of the preeminent cemeteries in the country and is a living display of the evolving funeral traditions of the city and America as a whole. The cemetery was and remains one of the city’s largest open green spaces and a century ago was a social venue for picnics, outings, and political events. Through vintage photographs, Green-Wood Cemetery chronicles the cemetery’s rich history and documents how its tradition as a park and a popular tourist attraction continues, drawing 300,000 visitors annually.

Whose Line: The Best of Kathy Greenwood

Here's Kathy's best of. She had some great material.

The Top 50 Movies of the 21st Century (#’s 25-21)

After a short break I continue my countdown, kicking off the top 25. Prior entries: #’s 50-46 … #’s 45-41 … #’s 40-36 … #’s 35-31 … #’s 30-26. #25. The Master (2012) Director: Paul Thomas Anderson. Starring: Joaquin Phoenix , Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, Laura Dern. PRODUCTION Company/Studio: Anapurna Pictures/Ghoulardi Film Co. /The Weinstein Company. Rotten Tomatoes/Metacritic/IMDB: 85%/86/7. 1. The Master is P. T. Anderson’s most ambitious and risky film to date. Inspired in part by the life of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, The Master tells the story of a drunken WWII veteran (Phoenix) and his experiences with the leader of a mysterious religious movement (Hoffman). However, this isn’t a film about “Scientology” or really even a film about religion. It’s a film about a veteran who doesn’t know how to function in regular society, and how his desperate search for anything real leads him towards a movement that seems to prey on those sorts of people. As with anything by Paul Thomas Anderson, all of the usual filmmaking elements shine. Movie buffs will surely notice the vibrant cinematography, subtle editing tricks, and dynamite score (Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood strikes again). But above all else, what sticks with one most after viewing The Master are the performances. Joaquin Phoenix, who very well may be the most talented actor of his generation, plays Freddie Quell with a sense of horrifying realism. Yet, Phoenix plays him with a ferocity that makes it feel as if the character is a danger to himself and everyone around him at any given time. It’s another role that only Phoenix could play. The late Philip Seymour Hoffman does his thing, per usual. But like Freddie Quell, he seems a bit lost as well, and at times it feels as if he’s lying to himself. Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, Ambyr Childers, and the late Christopher Evan Welch all fill out the cast nicely. Every character in this film is searching for something , and the actors deserve a lot of credit for making that a visually realized concept rather than one Anderson actually has to write into the script. Much like some of Anderson’s other work, The Master runs longer than your average film as is paced more creatively than your average film. Source: ZAK
