The movie of the year was pretty clearly Nick Cassavetes' The Other Woman. I should perhaps qualify this by saying that I am in no way the person who should be judging the movie of this or any other year since I am no longer able to spend any time
Nick Cassavetes has signed with WME, The has exclusively learned. He was previously repped by Jeff Berg at Resolution, which has shuttered in the wake of cash problems. This year Cassavetes directed the hit Cameron Diaz comedy

This dissertation examines cinema and television's engagement of the senses within the work of John Cassavetes to study transformations of film form following institutional changes in the Hollywood studio system in the late 1940s and 1950s. Cassavetes was integral to the emergence of a commercially viable "independent" American cinema, while he was also a well-known Hollywood actor and a star of the "golden age" of American television. The study traces the divergence of Cassavetes's aesthetic from the "classical Hollywood" mode of narration by focusing on the materiality of the moving image in Cassavetes's work. For example, his extended use of formal devices such as the close-up and long take are examined more broadly within related issues of performance in film and television of this period. By way of introduction, the study situates Cassavetes historically within New York avant-garde film culture of the 1950s and 1960s. It also engages with a renewed interest, within recent film criticism, in the discourse of cinephilia that focuses attention on the actor's gestures as both the preferred source of meaning in a film text and the primary component of a film's mise en scene. Chapter One, a study of Cassavetes's work in television, draws upon materialist theories of cultural production to analyze the relationship between performance and medium specificity, and to theorize the historical shift in definitions of actors' labour-power during the movement of television capital from New York to Los Angeles. Chapter Two provides a historical survey of Cassavetes' work as an actor, examining the place of acting within the discipline of film studies and recent theoretical work that focuses on "figurative" analysis, to incorporate the gestures and movements of film actors within film language. Chapter Three explores the "Americanism" in Cassavetes's representations of New York and Los Angeles, as in, for example, the vernacular word play and privileging of speech and voice. The final chapter offers an in-depth study of Cassavetes's last independently produced film, Love Streams, to theorize the relationship between his film practice and his work in the theater. Finally, the conclusion assesses Cassavetes's legacy for international art cinema.
(Even if you seen this before, it’s worthy of repeat viewing.) And to think, the two beautiful leads couldn’t stand each other! Love The Notebook? Don’t miss director Nick Cassavetes shares memories from the film, more than 10 years later.
Nick Cassavetes films it competently but in the safest, cookie-cutter way possible so as to appeal to guys and girls; the result should appeal to no one. I love a good comedy, but this most definitely does not qualify. From there it very quickly spins way ...
Unfortunately, 2014 was the year that Cameron Diaz decided to show how unfunny she could be: as well as stinking the place up with Jason Segel in Sex Tape, the actress also played one of the triumvirate of scorned women in Nick Cassavetes’ nasty comedy.
