Product Description
This vintage photograph is from one of various newspaper archives including: Boston, Detroit, Tampa, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, New Orleans, Milwaukee, and more. I do not copy or reproduce photographs. Every item is a unique vintage piece that was once housed in a news archive. The size is noted on a custom label on the back of most of my photos. I will ship your photo with thick cardboard in a plastic envelope to protect from moisture, with Do Not Bend stamped in large letters. You will find that my shipping materials are very sturdy and your photo will arrive well protected. Some photos were drawn or painted over in news rooms to hide or highlight features. This was a common practice in the manipulation of photography before Photoshop. If your photo has paint on it and if you choose to remove it, most of the paint can be removed with a baby wipe. Be careful to only clean the painted part of the photo as photos and moisture do not mix. Most of my photos are original gelatin silver prints made from the negative at the time the photograph was taken. Some are wire photos which were transmitted via telegraph or telephone wires. At the sending station, a typed caption was pasted to the border of the original photo, inserted into the sending machine and transmitted. At the receiving end, the caption information became part of the image. Wire photos are uniquely desirable to collectors. They were produced by the cutting edge technology of the time and the markings and stamps provide a chronicle of the American news industry. In many cases, the original photo has been lost or destroyed and wire photos represent the only remaining instance of that image. Wire Photos can be identified by: 1. Caption along one border incorporated into the image 2. Poor contrast or sepia toning (varies widely) 3. Credit line or stamp referencing a photo agency - AP, UPI, Wide World, ACME I appreciate your business and hope you enjoy the photo.

Edmonton man who bashed a guy in the head with a hammer gets probation - Edmonton Sun

An Edmonton man who bashed a guy in the head with a claw hammer and made him and his dad write bogus confessions he posted on numerous vehicles has avoided jail. The Crown was seeking a 90-day sentence for 63-year-old James Kenneth Barnes on Thursday, however a judge instead placed him on probation for two years and recommended he be assessed to see if he needs any counselling. Barnes pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm and two breaches of a court-ordered recognizance and, in exchange, multiple charges of knowingly publishing a defamatory libel, criminal harassment and unlawful confinement were withdrawn. Crown prosecutor Alexandra Bailey told court that Rodney Goetz and his son Aaron had lived at the same rundown 10958 108 St. rental house as Barnes, but they had moved out after the place was condemned. They went into the basement and, "to their surprise," they found Barnes there, said Bailey, adding that he became upset and accused them of taking his belongings. Court heard Barnes chased Aaron armed with a claw hammer and struck him in the head with it, causing a 15-mm laceration that required six or seven stitches. Court heard Barnes later went to the father's workplace and posted the confessions and other written materials saying he was a "thief, a scumbag and a terrible person" on the windshields of about 20 vehicles. Bailey said Aaron still has a divot in his head from the hammer blow and sometimes feels dizzy. Defence lawyer Peter Royal told court Barnes, who now lives at the Salvation Army, was "fully convinced the property was being improperly removed" from the home. "He got it in his head that he was being taken advantage of and he behaved quite inappropriately," said Royal. Provincial Court Judge Janet Dixon ruled jail was not necessary as Barnes spent two years under court-ordered restrictions without any problems, he had no prior criminal record and he took anger management counselling. Dixon said Barnes "acted out" inappropriately, but accepted that it was "out of context" for him. Meanwhile, Barnes is scheduled to go to trial later this month on a charge of aggravated assault in connection with an alleged attack on his former landlord. Source:
