We all sleep well last night and at the time of writing, James is sitting on the outside chairs sipping tea, taking in the view of the sun rising and lighting up the mountains whilst the family all stay sleeping in their beds,we are all tired... Our breakfast today will be taken in the hotel as we have some vouchers courtesy of Trailfinders so we will try that out and then drive to the Joshua Tree National Park. We stop in Palm Springs though for some sandwiches and drinks for our lunch which we can take to the park as it's still 70 miles to go to the park entrance from here. This hotel is though very smart, when the Chinese Premiere came over to California, they hosted him here in this Hotel and then, he held meetings with Obama at a ranch in the hills nearby. We set off at 10. 30 for the drive to Joshua tree, first stopping at Ralph's for some sandwiches for our lunch, this is a very smart supermarket, and the shopping centre in Indian Wells does look like some where straight out of the all American... The drive takes 80 minutes and takes us out past Palm Springs, then up over the hills towards 29 Palms where we find the entrance to the park. It's really hot, easily 100 degrees and once through the visitor centre we drive on into the park. Here you follow several roads around, but the main part is up quite high, past 3,000 feet and you come across this plateau with these amazing Yucca trees, huge boulders which have been eroded out of the ground. We do a walk before lunch around a huge pile of rocks which are in the shape of a face, it's very hot though and I must admit, we are a bit nervous by snakes as it's prime time for them at the moment. We then drive on to the turn off where there is a climb up the mountain to a high point where you can look over the whole of the Palm Springs valley and on to Mexico if it's clear enough. Our next stop is to see a dam called Barker Dam, despite the heat there is a lake here with water in it, this is due to a huge rainstorm that occurred a few days ago. At the dam, we first see a large male long horned sheep, he is climbing up these very precarious rocks and then we come across a flock/herd of female sheep and their young, they are in a pasture area, we can though still see the large male,... We then drive back down out of the park and head home, once we get to Indian Wells, we are straight in the pool, the water is over 80. The Curtain Never Moved is a true story of how my childhood life was a happy, loving, secure environment, until my mother died at an early age of cancer. After her death, the life I endured was of mental and physical abuse from my father and his partner. Feeling so alone, unhappy, petrified and wondering would I ever survive the abuse I endured; afraid to face the next day knowing it would be no different than the one before; wondering would I be fed the next day and dealing with the hunger and fear; dealing with the abuse day in, day out, and wondering would I survive.
