Tis the Season for Fearing

During these waning days of 2015, one can hardly miss the daily “news” and hearing the latest belch of fear-generating abomination from demagogue-in-chief, Donald Trump. Then, as his poll numbers continue trending up, many of us scratch our collective heads and wonder why Americans love fear so much. As for fear-mongering at its finest, just keep your eye on the rest of the clowns in the Republican primary car. More engaged to whipping up terror, few are inclined to talk about ending the permanent gridlock from which virtually nothing can get done to reduce gun violence, respond to climate change, create new jobs, deal with income inequality, address our... What’s worrisome is the sheer number of everyday Americans who are joining their parades of noise and little substance, abandoning concerns about the real problems we need to address to maintain America’s status as a first-world country, if not... In fact, our greatest fear should be these Americans who are succumbing to the rhetoric of political demagogues rather than any group of “enemies” they focus on in any particular news cycle. But what about fearing the fact that Congress is no longer capable of addressing the real problems facing our nation. After growing up during an era when our political leaders were capable of doing great things like starting and expanding Social Security, creating the Interstate Highway System creation, entering the space race, and desegregating the Jim Crow... I fear it will be a country that has abandoned its Constitutional principles because governance pursuant to that document and its bill of rights just doesn’t work anymore. How many of us looked askance when our highest court handed the election to Bush based on results in a state that managed to upstage some third-world countries – displaying a singular ineptitude at ensuring accurate and trustworthy election results. How many of us cringed when the Supreme Court – unnecessarily involving itself in a presidential election contest – made a decision on partisan lines and threw off the blindfold of the neutral, above-it-all entity provided for in the Constitution... Even when the Supreme Court has made some political choices in the past, I submit that. Source: Now and Thenadays
